My Wisdom Tooth Removal Experience: Part 2 of 3

I wanted to give a brief update on my healing process. So just to recap, I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed and i was given anti-inflammatory/pain/antibiotic pills to alliterate the after effects. Thankfully I haven’t had any nausea feelings after that night. My biggest issue is the swelling and numbness on the left side of my jaw and lips. It feels super weird! Imagine your foot “falling asleep” and not being able to shake it off. I still get itchy on my face in the numb areas but scratching does not help and i need to be careful not to do any damage since my pain receptors are malfunctioning. Placing an ice pack wrapped in a pillow case on the numb area diminishes the itchy sensations. The right side feels somewhat normal and the nerves are functioning properly.

Oral Care: I have begun flossing and brushing my teeth. I recommend getting a tongue scraper to ensure your mouth is completely clean. I was also prescribed a mouth rinse that I use twice a day. On the fifth day after surgery, I will begin using a syringe to rinse water over the scabbed sockets in the back of my mouth.

Diet: I was given a long list of things I could eat during the initial healing process. Unfortunately some of those things are too firm to swallow without chewing so I’m sticking to soups, instant mashed potatoes, pudding, ice cream, and Marconi and cheese. There are a variety of mashed potatoes to choose from these days (even sweet potatoes). I usually pour my soup selection over them to give it a thicker consistency. Pretty darn tasty if you ask me! Stouffer’s frozen mac and cheese is much softer and easier to consume than the box kind. For drinks, I simply do water and orange juice.

Activities: I’m gonna be honest…it’s be so sweet being able to stay home and relax! I got to catch up on light cleaning of my personal living quarters and clearing my hard drive. It was all fun and games until I got seriously bored. I’m not one to remain in the house for too long. It drives me crazy. The one thing that has allowed me to escape my boredom is blogging and streaming from my Roku. Have you heard of Nick Reboot? It’s this awesome website that features 24/7 streaming of Nickelodeon cartoons/shows from the 90s. Legends of the Hidden Temple, Global Guts, Doug, Family Double Dare, etc. Check them out if you are in a similar predicament.

I’ll do one final update within two weeks from now. Hopefully most of these issues will be gone. (Click here to read part 3 of 3)
